This year's benefit concert, "The Art of the Violin," on February 23 will feature guest artists Jerome Franke, violinist and orchestra conductor at Wisconsin Lutheran College, and Samantha George, violin professor at Lawrence University.
Cinematic Series Continues with a screening of Green Fire, 2/24
The Village Conservation Committee partners with the Recreation Department to screen Green Fire. It is the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary environmentalist Aldo Leopold.

The School Board Moves Forward With Superintendent Search, 1/24
The School Board has chosen national search firm BWP & Associates to lead the search for a new superintendent. The board formally approved the contract at the Tuesday, January 24, 2012 School Board meeting. Please refer to the press release for more details.
Let Your Voice Be Heard, Attend a Meeting Hosted By The Superintendent Search Firm, 2/15
BWP & Associates, the superintendent search firm, will be at the District on Wednesday, February 15 for stakeholder meetings. They would like to solicit your input.
Please consider attending one of the two community-wide meetings:
- 11:00 am in the SHS Conference Room or
- 7:00pm in the SHS Library.
The meetings will last approx 1 hr. During your meeting, the consultant will ask:
-Describe the significant strengths of the District.
-Describe the significant issues or concerns facing the District.
-Describe the characteristics the next superintendent needs to be successful.
- What other information would you like the Board to consider when selecting the superintendent.
All community members, parents, students are welcome.

School Board Election: Two People Running For Open Seat
There are two people running to fill the seat of retiring Board President Paul Zovic. David Cobb and David Gess have filed papers to run for the open seat on the School Board. It is a three-year term. The election is Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
Superintendent Blane McCann Announces Retirement
After 9 years of dedicated service, Superintendent Blane McCann will retire from the Shorewood School District effective July 9, 2012. At Tuesday’s School Board Meeting, the Board will formally accept Superintendent McCann’s resignation.“I will miss Dr. McCann’s leadership, guidance and advice and am proud to have served as a School Board Member with Dr. McCann as Superintendent,” shared Board President Paul Zovic. Each year as we work to build our budget within the state funding parameters, the District reaches out to the community to assure your voices are heard. To help promote understanding of our budget, we hold annual Town Hall meetings in January where we explain the budget building procedure, school funding formulas and invite your input. The budget discussion and planning continues this Spring.
Transforming Public Education: A Regional Call to Action
In April, our local Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA #1) hosted a regional symposium that outlined a vision for public education in Southeastern Wisconsin. The event was the culmination of a year’s work by CESA #1 member superintendents.
