Our District

As your newly hired Superintendent, I am honored to become part of the tradition of excellence and the spirit of community that are embodied in Shorewood School District. It is a pleasure to introduce myself, and I look forward to maintaining and expanding the power of the liberal arts education, to being part of a team with momentum and focus, and to help children of all ages love learning.
My career in education includes teaching high school social studies, mentoring new teachers in middle schools, working as a curriculum specialist in Denver, heading innovation efforts in Milwaukee, and serving as a principal and superintendent in Kohler. This full range of experiences, from major urban districts to small, high performing suburban communities, will help me understand and serve the diverse needs and interests that are part of the District.
While this is my first position in Shorewood, I’ve had the honor of being involved in the highly regarded Shorewood drama program. In the early 90's, together with my students from Vincent High School, we helped build sets for Shorewood productions. Years later, I watched my former students perform with the Shorewood Players. Even though theater is near and dear to me, academic and athletic pursuits are equally important. These activities keep young people engaged in the life of their school and community.
My work over the next several months will include meeting and engaging with administrators, teachers, staff members, and community members. Together with the Board, I will host community sessions where we will ask the question, “What does the new Superintendent need to know about the Shorewood Community and Shorewood Schools to be successful?” The information shared at these meetings will help us reflect on our strengths and address the challenges we face in our work.Additionally, there will be a number of transition activities designed to build relationships that lead to success for all children.
As we look at the future of public education in Shorewood and the nation, it is clear there will be many new and exciting opportunities. I look forward to learning more about the community and building quality relationships. The knowledge of Shorewood and the trust inherent in strong relationships will help us make the right decisions as we envision schooling in the coming decades. My commitment to you is that all students will graduate prepared to be successful in our modern world and have the tools to pursue their dreams.
Together with the Board, the administrative team, teachers, staff members, parents, and students, we will shape a future filled with extraordinary learning experiences. Building upon the strong solid foundation that already exists, Shorewood School District is uniquely positioned to become a model district for the future. By working collectively, we will develop innovative learning experiences that will place Shorewood among the most successful school districts in the nation.
