Welcome to the award winning School District of Shorewood! 

The Shorewood School District is located along the shores of Lake Michigan, just north of the city of Milwaukee. 

The district offers a comprehensive liberal-arts education that takes into account the needs and strengths of each student. In 2013, Shorewood High School was named the number one high school in Wisconsin by U.S. News and World Report. 

At the elementary level, we offer Early World Language courses beginning in fourth grade, multi-age classrooms for a more personalized learning experience, daily instruction in art, music and physical education, as well as orchestra and band beginning in fourth grade. 

At Shorewood Intermediate School, for seventh and eighth graders, our staff is focused on helping students develop a positive sense of self to become lifelong learners through numerous opportunities within the school's safe, supportive, collaborative culture.  

Finally, at Shorewood High School our students can take part in more than 47 co-curricular activities or enroll in one of the school's many AP (Advanced Placement) course options. On average, 90% of SHS students continue their education at 2 or 4 year colleges and universities across the country.

Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to be a resident to enroll my child?

Not necessarily. If your child currently does not reside in Shorewood, there are three ways your student can attend school in the district.  
BECOME A RESIDENT
Resident students are automatically enrolled in the Shorewood school system. Proof of residency is required at registration. If you are already a resident, click here for more information about enrolling your child(ren). 
OPEN ENROLLMENT
Apply through the Open Enrollment program.  Open Enrollment applications are accepted from the beginning of February until April 30th for the following fall enrollment via the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's website.  There are a limited number of spaces available, students for available spaces are selected randomly through the Department of Instruction. 
CHAPTER 220 PROGRAM
Chapter 220 is the popular name for the Voluntary Student Transfer Program. This program is designed to racially integrate schools by giving minority students the opportunity to attend schools in suburban areas that are predominately non-minority (white). Non-minority students from the suburbs are given the opportunity to attend racially diverse schools in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS). Currently, Shorewood is no longer eligible to accept new Milwaukee students as part of the Chapter 220 program. 

Will transportation be provided for my Open Enrollment or Chapter 220 student?

Students enrolled in the district via Open Enrollment must provide their own transportation to and from school.  The Chapter 220 provides transportation for students.

When is the Open Enrollment period?

For the 2013-2014 school year, the open enrollment period will begin on February 4, 2013 and end on April 30, 2013. For more information, visit the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's website.
