Sharon Maier, Certified Teacher
Sharon received a BS in Exceptional Education from UW-Madison in 1978, with concentrations in Early Childhood Exceptional Needs, Cognitive Disabilities and Behavioral/Emotional Disabilities; and she received Wisconsin teaching licenses in all three areas. Sharon
worked for several years as a special education teacher for preschool-age children before taking a break to stay at home with her young children. Returning to teaching, Sharon earned a post-baccalaureate degree in Education and received Wisconsin teaching certification for Pre-K through grade three. Sharon has taught preschool, four-year-old kindergarten and first grade during the last several years in the Whitefish Bay, Shorewood and Oak Creek school districts. In 2004, Sharon welcomed the opportunity to design, plan and launch a brand new preschool program in Shorewood: Bright Beginnings Preschool. The 2004-05 school year was a very exciting and successful start to what has proved to be an exemplary program. Sharon’s focus in teaching is the development of positive self concept and the encouragement of each child’s natural love of learning. She achieves these goals by providing a stimulating, creative curriculum and classroom environment which enable each child to freely explore and grow intellectually and emotionally. Sharon has lived in Shorewood since 1983 and is proud of the excellent educations her two sons and two daughters received in the Shorewood schools, and is happy to be touching the lives of Shorewood’s very youngest through Bright Beginnings.
Julia Montgomery, Teaching Assistant
Julia is delighted to be teaching at Atwater Bright Beginnings Preschool. After receiving an undergraduate degree in History and Communications from Mount Mary College, Julia realized she wanted to pursue a career that would make a difference in the lives of others, particularly children. In the summer of 2000, she decided to enter the field of education. Julia has over ten years experience teaching at both the elementary and preschool level. Julia has worked as a head teacher in preschool, Kindergarten and 1st grade. In December 2011, she earned her teaching certification along with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. When Julia is not teaching she enjoys spending time with her family, working in her garden, cooking and playing with her golden doodle Marley.
